Careers in the medical field are growing. The need for people to care for an aging, baby-boomer population in the United States, has created a deficit of qualified medical personnel. There is a lack of medical professionals in areas from entry level to executive management.

Open positions range from certified nursing assistants and hospital orderlies to board certified physicians specializing and various areas of medicine and everything in between. The largest deficit, however, falls in the areas of registered nurses and physicians assistants. Register nurses are needed throughout the country in doctors’ offices, clinics, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and other medical facilities.

Other careers in the medical field include physical therapy, respiratory therapy, x-ray technician, radiation services (CT, MRI), and other specialized medical fields. All of these career areas required training and education specific to the area of specialty, but its well worth the effort. People who choose the medical field as a career can expect to receive wages and salaries that are well above the norm.

With the exception of the most entry level positions, such as CNAs, who are usually paid a little more than minimum wage, those who choose careers in the medical field are paid well and can often earn as much or more than corporate executives. There is a tradeoff, however. Many medical professionals, especially physicians and nursing staff, will often be required to work longer and more hours than the average professional. These are demanding positions and require a person with the physical and emotional fortitude to handle the many ups and downs that come with working in medicine.

Careers in the medical field also include those of psychiatry, mental health, nutrition, and addiction. These career fields require education and training in addition to the normal requirements for a particular position. If you are interested or working in one of these fields, you should be prepared for continuous changes in the science and application of your chosen area of expertise. The sciences of these special fields are ever-changing and the people who have dedicated themselves to them must be able to adjust and change along with them

If you’ve chose careers in the medical field, you’ve made a good choice. The job outlook for medical careers is stable and steadily rising. It is unlikely that this will change any time soon. Just remember that the the more education and the more specialized education you have the better the pay will be. Start your new career in the medical assisting field online.

I wish this book had been available when I was in my twenties. No More Ramen: The 20-Something’s Real World Survival Guide is a must-read for young people just getting started in their careers. It is full of valuable advice for those who want to set the stage early in life for building a happy and satisfying life that includes a balance of career and personal life.

No More Ramen: The 20-Something’s Real World Survival Guide author Nicholas Aretakis is a successful entrepreneur who spends a significant amount of time mentoring young people faced with the reality of transitioning from college to real life. This book provides practical and valuable tips for getting handle on the many important decisions that young adults must make as they transition to the world of adulthood.

More than just a guide for career success, this book taps into all aspects of what young people need to consider at the outset of their careers. The book does provide practical advice for how to find a great job, but it goes far beyond job search and selection strategies. Readers can glean important tips that can help them become financially independent. For example, the book clearly points out the implications of allowing credit card debt to build, enabling readers to fully grasp the importance of debt reduction.

This book was written with input from young people, and it is clearly written from the perspective of an author who really “gets” what today’s young people are faced with as they move into the world of work. This book is going on my holiday shopping list. I’m not in my twenties anymore, but I have a niece who is. She can expect to find No More Ramen: The 20-Something’s Real World Survival Guide in her holiday stocking this year!

Well what is a good mechanic worth these days? You cannot place a value on them simply as labor units as they teach in management school, they are worth more than money. So why not treat them with respect and dignity and pay them what they are worth, we believe that the national averages are too low. There is a partial report on the Automotive and Trucking Sector from the Fed’s Beige Book, June 2002.

I do not concur with all these numbers, but this is an average and a good indication of some since of reality. Certainly the numbers are incorrect for North Eastern US, Houston, Dallas, Denver, LA, PHX, Seattle, Atlanta, Detroit, and Minneapolis. The report states that Government Mechanics for Diesel Engines average wage is $17.93 per hour, auto $16.90. For parts companies where knowledge is key since parts are parts is $15.48 diesel, $16.87 auto. Repair Stations Diesel $14.74, auto repair shops $12.35. Trucking and Delivery $14.50 diesel, auto $12.15.

School Districts averages $14.60, auto $11.80, great? Our most precious commodity and the future of this nation, our kids? The low end of the mechanic scale is schools? Ouch.

Well the Oil Change Quick Lube is even less. Labor to start at Jiffy Lube is $6.75 in some locations. We can guarantee you if you want to reduce turnover at your Oil Change Facility, you will have to pay more than that. Some oil change companies claim a 60% turnover per year, which is only a tad better than a fast food restaurant.

Even at ten dollars per hour in suburban areas, you are barely getting by for the quality help your customers deserve.

Think about it.

I stumbled upon Legit Online Jobs a few weeks back and was immediately intrigued. What stuck out to me was the website’s claim that “ninety-nine percent of income opportunities are scams,” implying that their site was one of the few that was, in fact, legitimate. Now, in my experience, very few of these online get-rich-quick sites are scams by the classic definition; most just fail to live up to expectations. After trying Legit Online Jobs, I can say this is definitely not a method to make money fast, but a solid way to make money online if one has the time and motivation.

This program provides information on how to use programs such as Google’s AdWords to promote companies, who in turn pay you when their product is purchased through your ad. Using AdWords without any experience is a difficult undertaking, and this program details useful guidelines and advice. This is information that might take you a few years to pick up without any outside source; it took me two years of reading ebooks to learn all of this information. The database provided of companies who will pay money is extensive and useful.

In conclusion, this website is a useful tool for those who are inexperienced in making money online, but are willing to work hard. Those who are more seasoned would do better indulging in more profitable types of business online.

For more information, check out Legit Online Jobs. And to recap,

Pros:

-Useful Information

-Good Database

Cons:

-Hard work is required

-Program confusing at first

Nowadays, pro volleyball players can choose to play in many different countries, where teams pay a decent salary for them to live and compete for seven to nine months out of the year. Every year since 2003, American volleyball player Logan Tom has played on a different pro volleyball club team around the world.

Starting in Italy where she played for Monte Schiavo, Jesi followed by a year on the Chieri Women’s A-1 Division volleyball team. When a player opts to play overseas, especially in Italy and/or Brazil, it’s not only about who you play for, but also which foreign player(s) you can or want to play with. Your teammates and support system are very important when playing at such a high level for such a long season. Back in the day when only two players were allowed per team, playing with a fellow national volleyball team member was usually your first choice, and secondly playing with a top national team player from another country, preferably a top ranked country with players who spoke your language was the desired second option.

Trust me, it doesn’t always happen, I’ve been on teams where I had to speak Italian because it was the only language everybody had in common, including the volleyball coach. This makes you bilingual very quickly.

Three-time Olympic volleyball player Logan Tom, should be well-versed in many languages by now. She has played all over the world in the highest leagues an awesome experience to have and with a little less pressure on the volleyball player since the rules have changed so that now multiple foreign (European Union) players are allowed to play per team in Italy. So think about how much great world class experience an international player receives.

On the Jesi women’s volleyball team, Logan played with six “non-Italian” and six Italian professional volleyball players including Poland’s national team setter Magdalena Sliwa, Italy’s two-time Olympian Elisa Togut, Italy’s national team member Eleonora Lo Bianco, chinese libero Wu Dan, and Czech national volleyball team member Marcel Ritschelova. This is an incredible opportunity to improve your game and to learn the secrets of international volleyball from some of the best coaches and players while scouting the tendencies of your international competition.

It doesn’t get any better than that for those players who want to play the best volleyball in the world..

On the Chieri volleyball team Logan played with USA and (soon to be) four-time summer Olympic player and teammate, Danielle Scott-Arruda as well as two Bulgarians and one Brazilian player. The coach was long time veteran Giovanni Guidetti. They say if you can stay around long enough, eventually you get to coach everybody. I’m just sayin’…

For the 2005-2006 season Logan opted to play in Switzerland specifically on the Volero team in Zurich. Volero did very well that year but not well enough to keep Logan in Switzerland.

The best international pro volleyball players are always looking to challenge themselves to become better. Logan is no exception to the rule. Moving to warmer territory Logan transferred back to a Latin influenced country this time choosing to play in the Spanish league on the Tenerife team.

But once again, the lull of the Tenerife island wasn’t strong enough to keep Logan there for more than one season, so she decided to go to the far reaches of the earth to play in Russia.

Not just play in Russia but play on one of the historically predominant Russian volleyball club dynasties, the Dynamo team. Ironically Logan’s old team Spar Tenerife Marichal recently beat Dinamo Moscow 3:1 (19:25, 25:19, 25:23, 25:17).

Logan is scheduled to play the 2007-2008 season, her second season, on the Moscow based Dynamo women’s volleyball team. Logan is currently on the US National Olympic volleyball team and will represent the United States in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

As a sometime career consultant, I continue to search for a book targeting people at mid-life. This book seems to be about preparing for the years just past midlife, which Mary Pipher characterizes as the “young old.”

As I’ve noted in reviewing other books, I often think it’s impossible to write a really helpful book about this stage of life because (a) there just aren’t a lot of choices for everyone and (b) there’s such a variety of people, health levels, skills, aptitudes, background and more. Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot deals with (b) by focusing on a small slice of the population: educated, healthy people without financial worries. Within that group, she finds common patterns: a yearning for something that can’t always be named, a resistance to change (possibly because successful people tend to resist changing a cherished identity) and finally a learning that differs from previous classroom experiences.

It is insights like this one that led me to give the book a 4-star rating rather than 3-star. I agree with reviewers who complained about the length of interviews, details of subjects’ lives and narrowness of subject range. I also agree that the book doesn’t present as many original ideas and frameworks as readers might expect from extensive research. But as a former academic myself, I think it’s appropriate to work with a narrow sample, as long as you make it clear upfront, preferably in the book’s title. There’s value in asking explicitly, “If money were no object, how would people choose to enter their sixties and seventies?” At the same time, these people are insulated from many consequences of aging.

I also liked the author’s review of the way the notions of aging and retirement have changed. I would have liked to see more on this topic. When I lived in New Mexico I met people who lived in those “55 and up” communities, including one woman who took care of her aging parents. When her mom died, she was in her early fifties: too young, according to the community. I also met people who wondered why I didn’t want to live with my age-mates, an idea that makes me feel suffocated. It’s good to have the historical perspective.

The best part of the book was the author’s interview with economist Matthew Gladstone. Gladstone’s perspective makes sense, possibly because I have a b-school background and enjoyed my economics courses. Gladstone suggests that as we continue doing work, the law of diminishing returns sets in. If I understand him correctly, I believe he might suggest that a successful lawyer might get enormous joy out of winning her first case, then her second…but at some point, she will be less joyful. It’s like eating a meal when you’re hungry; as you start feeling satisfied you don’t enjoy the food as much.

I think we could extend economic thinking even further. When you reach a certain age, you certainly can invest whatever time, energy and money you have to learn something new or start a new venture. But your ROI – return on investment – will be limited. You might write one novel and maybe you will even sell it, but you won’t have time to go on and write a series that would bring you the real rewards that come to authors after a long career.

I don’t agree that the book reads like an academic article or a dissertation, having seen too many examples of the real thing. In fact, I think the book would be stronger if the author had introduced more sociological concepts to frame many examples. For instance, the interviewees made transitions from high-level professional or organizational settings to a more right-brained, artistic and/or spiritual focus. I know many people who never want to stop working. Volunteer work and the arts will never be enough for them (and I feel that way myself). The author notes that one interviewee, Pamela, feels frustrated because there are structural and institutional limits to her contribution. Yet anyone over 50 who wants to continue earning money faces much bigger challenges.

Finally, I admit to being jealous of those who found their new artistic callings. I wish I’d thought of singing lessons, but suspect I will still be advised to tap along to the songs rather than try to sing them. Over the past ten years, I’ve taken pottery classes in two different states. Each time I had less talent than anyone in the class. It was fun, though, and I just resumed. This time I decided to take on throwing. I still have less talent than anyone and I also have sore deltoids in my left arm. Still, I resonate to the experience of the interviewee, Josh, with learning the piano: trying to aim for a higher level does bring psychic rewards

Nowadays there is much talk about the benefit of volleyball, as a team sport, to individuals. This benefit is said to be even bigger than that of other more popular sports. Maybe the most popular of team sports is soccer but there are also others, like volleyball, that have the same important effects for the participants.

Volleyball, is unfortunately a neglected sport. It has neither been promoted as should have been nor it is of the most popular among young people. However it has positive consequences on people that like to take part in it.

First of all, it helps people to stay healthy and to preserve physical fitness, as it happens with other sports. At the same time it is a way, for young people, to release tension without turning to dangerous outlets such as violence and crime.

Another benefit of volleyball, is its contribution to the development of solidarity and cooperation between the members of the team. The common effort, brings individuals that participate in a volleyball game, closer to each other, while this game gives them the chance to cooperate for the best possible result.

From all the benefits that are described here, anyone can understand that this sport does not fall short in comparison to other sports. But despite its advantages few people take part in it. The main reason for this is that volleyball is not promoted by the mass media, while at the same time families and schools does not encourage young people to participate, because they think soccer, track and fields and basketball are the best ways of exercise.

However, in the last few years there is a trend to teach volleyball more often in gym classes. It is important that this trend be continued. Volleyball teaching in schools should become more systematic and at the same time young people should be encouraged to take part in volleyball games especially if this agrees with their personal inclinations.

At the same time the mass media should promote the sport through the broadcasting of volleyball matches or TV programmes that give information about the sport. This way people will discover volleyball and the new dimensions that the sport offers.

In conclusion, volleyball, like every sport, has positive results on individuals and so it is necessary for more people to realize the benefits of these results and make the effort to learn and enjoy the game.
